Preamble
The Institution of Engineers(India) has a tradition of orgazing
World Congresses to spotlight issues of global engineering importance. The
International conference on Habitat in December 1997and the World Congress
on Sustainable Development in January 2000 are two such examples. World
Congress on Natural Disaster Mitigation marks yet another initiative of
the continuing partnership between The Institution of Engineers (India) -
IE(I) and World Federation of Engineering Organizatipon - WFEO. A Large
Number of national and International agencies too have joined hands to
support the event.
The Congress as perceived in a historic necessity. It Offers a
professional platform for face-to-face dialogue with those who went
through the thick and thin of the Gujrat Earthquake of 26th
January,2001,the Orrisa Super Cyclone of October 1998, and many more
cataclysmic events in the recent memory.
New Delhi, the venue of the Congress, is regarded as the most ideal
metropolis for a World Congress based on decades of feed back experience.
It offers World Class conference facilities.
India is a multi-color garland. It is not a Country only but a
message. It is a cradle of Civilisation. It is a land of never ending
festivals. It's fine landscape, Its dances,music,arts,crafts, and cuisines
and faces lend India a rare Charm.
Object of the Congress
The object of the World Congress is to provide a multi-disciplinary
forum for engineers, architects, planners, technocrats, scientists,
disaster managers, international and voluntary agencies and others
working for the field of natural disaster mitigation and management to
meet and share ideas, achievements and experiences. Exclusive time will be
provided for authors to present their work through poster sessions and
interact with delegates of eminence in their chosen specialized fields.
Programme - Overview
The programme of the congress will be spread over three days. It
will have five plenary sessions including a special plenary session and
twelve parallel sessions. The special plenary session will address how
some countries mitigate and manage their disaster and how such experiences
could fashion disaster mitigation and management plans especially of
developing countries.
