A Detailed Account of India’s Participation
The delegation of the Institution of Engineers (India), was led by B. J. Vasoya, President, accompanied by Mr. G. L Rao, Past President and Secretary General FEISCA, for the meetings of WFEO General Assembly, Executive Council and other associated meetings held in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 16th October to 22nd October, 2005. During the Welcome Reception, on 16th, Mr. BJ.Vasoya, President and Mr, G. L. Rao, had the opportunity of meeting the President WFEO Eng. LEE Yee-Cheong and President Elect Mr. Kamel Ayadi and many delegates from various countries and informally discussed on many issues relating to the profession. On 17th, Mr. B. J. Vasoya, as the Chairman C E E, conducted the meeting of Committee on Engineering and Environment. On invitation of Mr. B.}. Vasoya, Mr. G. L Rao attended. Mr. Vasoya, after welcoming all the members took up the Agenda. The News Letter and the CEE Silver jubilee Report 1979 - 2004 were circulated. He highlighted the activities conducted in India and also discussed future programme and proposals/views for furtherance of the activities of this committee. A video presentation of the activities conducted in India, in thearea of Construction and Environment, which also'covered some important aspects in the construction of Sardar Sarovar Project and also the activities in the rural areas of Gujarat State, where awareness has been created to a large number of farmers in water harvesting and the environment protection. The meeting was attended by 25 members/invitees the presentation has provoked lot of discussion. The minutes of the meeting of CEE is circulated to the committee members. On 18th, during the executive Council meeting, President WFEO followed the agenda. When the turn of the presentation of the activity reports came. President, IEI, Mr. B. I. Vasoya, Chairman of CEE presented the activity report of CEE and high lighted the activities done by CEE including publishing of news letters and printing of the book on the history of environment engineering committee since its inception. The Chairman of the Awards Committee informed the meeting about the Names of the Awardees for the (a) Medal of engineering Excellence to Dr. C. C. Patel- (India), (b) Medal of Engineering Education to Dr. Arcot Ramachandran - (lndia), (c) The Hassib j Sabbagh Award for Engineering Construction Excellence to Engineers without Borders. They also have announced the medal for the best services rendered to WFEO by Prof. G. P. Lal - (lndia). The Chairman, Nominations Committee has reported that there will be election for seven seats of members of executive committee and there are 8 nominations. There will also be election for the President elect, as there are four nominations. During the General Assembly, Mr. Vasoya, while offering to host the WFEO General Assembly 2007, in India, has explained the facilities available in New Delhi, India for hosting the WFEO General Assembly in 2007 and made a video presentation, which made a very good impact and President Elect Mr. Kamel Ayadi wanted that this C.D. be given to him. India's offer to host the WFEO General Assembly in 2007 has been accepted by the General Assembly. Elections for the President Elect were conducted and Mr. Barry j Grear AO, of Australia has been elected as President Elect. He was invited to the dais. Mr. Kamel Ayadi has been installed as the President, WFEO for the ensuing session. During the Gala Night, the Medal of Engineering Excellence, Medal of Engineering Education and Hassib j Sabbagh Award for Engineering Construction Excellence were presented. |
