                 Announcement : WEC       Forthcoming Conference    Committee 

India Hosts – 2007 WFEO General Assembly & World Congress 

WFEO General Assembly, the Executive Council and Standing Committee Meetings of WFEO will be held at New Delhi on 12 – 16 November 2007 concurrently with the World Congress on "Urban Infrastructure in Developing Countries." The programme of the WFEO Assembly is spread over 5 days including meetings of various Committees, Executive Counci, General Assembly and Technical Seminar. The programme of General Assembly will be conducted as per WFEO Norms.

During the event technical visits to work site / projects within and around Delhi are being organized.

Poster Sessions

The authors will have the facility to participate in poster sessions.Participating authors will be provided with a suitable display area. Detailed directions will be given in the subsequent newsletter.

Programme for Accompanying Person

Parallel programmes for sightseeing will be arranged for persons accompanying delegates to give them a feel of the Indian life style.

Venue

New Delhi, the venue of the Congress, is regarded as the most ideal metropolis for a World Congress based on decades of feed back experience. It offers world-class conference facilities. Apart from the obvious advantages of a Capital city and excellent multi-choice flight connections from anywhere in the world, delegates could be sure of hotels of every description and rates. Pleasant weather and a great variety in sightseeing and shopping are other attractions.

Theme and Sub-themes

Keynote Addresses, Paper Sessions and Round Table Discussions will be accommodated under the following headings:

Theme I: Sustainable Development including Urban Disaster Management – Long-term perspective plan, integrated approach, social aspects, disaster preparedness and management including risk assessment, analysis, evaluation and financing urban infrastructure.

Theme II: Urban Infrastructure Facilities in Rural Scenario Rural employment opportunities to discourage rural to urban migration, urban-rural continuum of infrastructure, deterring new slums and habitat improvement in existing slum areas, evolving suitable financial and regulatory models.

Theme III: Urban transportation – Mass transportation, road and rail networks, aviation facilities, riverfront and jetties for transportation. Intervention of private participation development of urban infrastructure.

Theme IV: Water and Solid Waste Management – Water availability, conservation and management, water body development and maintenance, solid and industrial waste management, drainage and waste water management. Financing options for effective waste management.

Theme V: Quality of Urban Life – Healthcare, recreational and sports facilities, education and community life, tourism, population control, including suitable pricing policy.

Theme VI: Energy and Communication – Power infrastructure, communication facilities, IT intervention in power sectors, including suitable pricing policy and need for regulation authority.

Call for Papers

Prospective authors who wish to present a paper either in the oral or poster sessions are requested to send their papers as per following time schedule:-

   l Abstract to be submitted by 30.11.2006

   l Authors of papers will be notified provisional acceptance by 31.01.2007

   l Completed papers to be received by 30.04.2007.
